March 2015.  I still remembered it was Sunday. I was sitting right under cold air conditioner at the church. It was so cold. During the service, I couldn’t focus to the sermon. I tried my best to make my body warm. I wasn’t only feeling cold and sick, I also got a big headache. Right after service, I asked my friend to find me something hold. They gave me a glass of hot milk. After my body stopped shaking, I went home.

I was thinking I got cold so I chose to take a rest, hoping that I would get better after a long sleep.  After two days, I wasn’t feeling better. I still had my fever and headache. I decided to meet the doctor. At the hospital, they asked me to take blood test. I took the test and the result wasn’t good. I got types and dengue fever.

Long story short, I was hospitalized.  It was the first time ever. It was the first time being hospitalized, infused, and I didn’t like it. I was hospitalized for five days. I ate everything that would make me healed. I drank ang kak water, guava juice, date palm, and a lot of water.

After five days, the doctor said that I could leave the hospital. I took a rest for a week at home. After several days, I could go back to my routine life. I was doing my thesis. Right after three weeks, my body was dropped again. I didn’t know why but yeah it happened.  I went to the doctor again and he said that I got types (again). That time, I was scared. I was scared to die.

I took a rest for two weeks and I wasn’t feeling better at all. It was getting worse than ever. My stomach acid was increased. I got sleep problem. I couldn’t sleep and I was scared to sleep. My hands and feet got cold. The heartbeat wasn’t normal too. I felt my stomach bloated. I felt something bleeding inside my mouth/ throat. It was that bad.

I didn’t know what to do. I spent every single day crying, crying and crying. There were so many tears. I was scared to death.  It was the lowest point of my life. I never felt scared like that before. I realize that I didn’t believe God. I asked myself,

Where is my faith?
Why don't I believe in God?

The sea turned so rough. My life got tough. My heart was broken. I listened to one song that gave me courage to get through this season.  It reminded me that His Word stands strong, His love won’t fail, and He is more than enough for me.

BIKRAM YOGA : Is It Worth the Sweat?

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Yoga. I think this is the last exercise I would like to try in my life. One variant of yoga : Bikram Yoga. It was 90 minutes in a room heated to 42 degrees centigrade. I would do yoga if Blair Waldorf does.

Last Sunday, I got the chance to try Bikram Yoga at Union Yoga. That was my first time. You know, I thought it would be so boring, but I was so wrong! I took class at 8.00 AM on Sunday morning. First I came to the class, there were four people ready with their yoga mat and one instructor.

The class started. The instructor began to give instruction for the poses. You know, it was my first time. I forgot to googling the day before. I had no clue about the poses. It was embarrassing honestly. I just followed the man beside me. At the middle of the class, the instructor asked my name and He knew that it was my first time. He said that I was really good at balancing. Yeah!

After 60 minutes, you'll have sweat dripping to your mat. It was so hot for me. My clothes was utterly sodden. Even the instructor was sweating. Trust me, all this sweating was worth it. Yoga has changed my mind. That was totally fun. For the first 10 poses, I thought when the class would end. Then, my mind has changed and I would like to join again.

There are so many things I lear from Bikram yoga. I have no idea that my body could be that flexible and I can achieve more than I think. Now I know why people are addicted to yoga. It's worth the sweat!

23. I am 23 now. I can't believe that I am 23. Life's been so good to me. That doesn't mean everything is okay and perfect but with ups and downs, there are so many things I learnt for the past 22 years. That morning on my birthday, I spent few minutes to reflect my life for the past 22 years, and see where I am now and my heart is full of gratitude.

For some people, they will think that birthday is like an ordinary day, but not for me. I do realise that I get one more year from God to live my life and I don't want to take it for granted. You know, there so many people at the hospital who are fighting with their sickness, want to be you, and to have life like yours. I just don't want to take this chance for granted. I decided to text my mom and said that I am so grateful for her. I thank her for her heart and how she's been doing a great job as a single mother. I know that's not easy and I am not easy to handle too haha.

Also, Thank you for my friends who arranged the surprise too. They are the best. I am so excited to see what God has in store. This year is gonna be awesome and I hope I can write regularly on this blog. Love you guys!

I don't know how many times I've been to Singapore, but I never have a chance to visit Tiong Bahru. Last vacation, I went to Singapore and made Tiong Bahru as the priority. I heard that there are so many hip and cool cafes and restaurants in there. Tiong Bahru is recently known for its hipster cafes. I had a chance to go to three cafes and its market. There are still a lot more, so you need to at least spend 1-day (maybe) if you want to visit all cafes.

Located in Yong Siak Street (near Tiong Bahru Market), this cafe is known for its coffee. My friend who lives three years in Singapore said that this is her favorite cafe. People go to Forty Hands for the coffee and fyi, Forty Hands is one of the few cafes that serve the best coffee in Singapore. I am not coffee drinker, but my friend bought two coffees at the same time. Coffee drinker, Forty Hands should be on your list.

It is quite difficult to find this place. I went there by MRT and I walked for 10 minutes from the nearest station (Tiong Bahru station). I suggest you to take a cab if you don't want to walk. Not only for the coffee, I also love this cafe because it's on the same street with Books Actually (a book shop). You can go to two places at the same time.

Located at the same street with Forty Hands, this indie book shop is my favourite. From the outside, you will know that this book shop is really something. If you read their site, it is an independent bookstore specialising in fiction and literature. You'll find the book you cannot find elsewhere. As book lover, I'm in love with this place. You should check this out. You can also buy their books online by go to their site, Books Actually

Third stop, I visited Tiong Bahru Market for the lunch. I heard there are some favourite stalls in there. My friends ordered Lor Mee and I ordered Fish Ball Mee. We also ordered Jian Bo Chwee Kueh. Delicious. I love local foods!!!

You also can see some murals in this area. I found that mouse deer!

4. Tiong Bahru Bakery
I have no photos for this cafe because my camera ran out of battery BUT this is the BEST. My friend said to me that they have the best croissant ever. I have to admit it. YES YES YES. Unfortunately, I was so full that time, but I had a chance to taste their croissant and brioche. No words. Love it! You should put it on your list.

It's summer time, even in Indonesia, we only have two seasons, wet and dry. My friends and I went to Bandung a couple weeks ago and found this instagram-able rooftop for taking a picture. We did some boomerang session and video session too. If you wanna see, go check my instagram.

I'm so excited for this holiday. I know you are too. Feels so happy to go to the mall and see all summer outfits displayed on shop window. For this short holiday, I'm going to Batam to visit my mom and then I'll go to Singapore with my friends. So excited to meet my family and friends. What is your plan for this holiday?

The word I really want to say every single day. The word which means a lot for every child. It's not about the word, it's about the figure. I still remember that day when my mom got a call from the police about the accident. I still remember that day when my mom carried me at the funeral. Time flies and it's almost 20 years I live my life without father.

Growing up fatherless, there were moments I wanted a father so bad. There were many moments when I got jealousy of my friends for having father and I found myself wanting a father. There is a reality show from South Korea, called Return of Superman. I do love the show because it shows us the love of father. Watching the shows, I realised how I want that in my life and there is something missing in my life.

You know, every children will say that their mother are the best, but for me, my mother is more than that. She's the strongest person ever, she never complain about her life, and she is so faithful. Before I wrote this, I googled several articles about living fatherless, and found several articles about the effects of living fatherless. I am so grateful that i'm fine physically, mentally, emotionally.

I'm grateful that my mother introduced Jesus in my life. I'm grateful that she asked me to read the bible. I'm grateful that she brought me to the church. Why? Because He is all I need. He completes me. He accepts me. He loves me as His daughter, and the best thing He died for me. He loves me so much so He died for me, for my sin, for all my wrongs.

Since I met Him and invited Him to my life, I never wanted a father anymore. I know I already have Father. My Heavenly Father, and He is Good Good Father. Yes, it's who He is.

To all girls out there who live without father, you know you are precious, you are loved, God and your mother love you so.

You're a Good Good Father
It's who You are
It's who You are
It's who You are

And I'm loved by You
It's who I am
It's who I am
It's who I am

You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

This is the song I listened to for the last couple days named Good Good Father by Housefires. This song inspired me to write this post. I feel it by myself how God is the greatest Father ever. He's perfect. He's always been perfect.

the popular spot
I don't really have sweet tooth. I don't like sweet-tasting foods. I'm not saying I hate it, but I am not really into it. I prefer fried chicken, nuggets, or sausages than ice cream or chocolate. I know you will think that I'm weird enough, won't you?

Yesterday, my friends and I went to the newest gelato shop in town, in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta. It's called Latteria Gelato. The place is easy to find and easily noticeable. It's located beside The Cup Korean restaurant.

So, hey guys.

For this Valentine, I will do guest-blogging with my talented friend, Imanuel Gouw. Since we both are single, we have the opportunity to judge what a good spouse should do since no one will get mad at us if we do this. Hahaha. I hope you enjoy this piece. Have a great Valentine!

I also write on his blog, too.

In spite of being single for the past 5 years, I always be the one whom my friends talk to when they have problems with their loved ones. It’s been an honor to share some of my relationship advice to all my friends, and now to you, my beloved readers.

Being single has its own perks for me. I get to learn from all kind of relationship drama without have to be in one. This valuable insights bottle up to something I would call: the recipe for perfect girlfriend. Well, at least I think these are the things that guys hope their girls have.

1. She shouldn’t have to be pretty, just be eye-catchy.

In contrast to popular belief that tells girls should be pretty, guys find that not all pretty girls are worth the attention. Well that doesn’t mean it’s okay not to take care of yourself. It means that sometimes, look is not everything.

Just like girls, boys have the ideal type. But that’s that. The ideal type is a good-to-have type, not necessarily a must-have criteria. So you don’t have to as cute as Emma Stone to catch boys’ attention. Just be as cute as you can be.

I think the term is eye-catchy. You just have to catch our attention, at first. I shouldn’t lie and tell you that guys don’t care about pretty girls. We do but that’s not enough. Guys, no matter how shallow you think we are, want a relationship with girl that connects well with him.

Your face may catch the attention but, in the end, it’s your everything that catches the heart.

2. She should be independent enough to be on her own, yet needy enough when she’s with her boyfriend.

Okay, here’s a little surprise: spoiled girls are a big turn-off.
With spoiled, I mean: princess-like, Barbie-on-steroids attitude.

You’re scared of cockroaches? That’s cute.
You can’t ride any car that has more than two seats? Uh, bye, Paris.

Guys like to pamper their girls but we have limits, as well. Some things are just intolerable.

So just make sure, you act accordingly. Sometimes cute like Rachel, sometimes strong like Monica, but always be as adventurous as Phoebe. (If you don’t get this joke, go watch the funniest sitcom men ever watched.)

3.  She should have that one thing.

Nothing is cuter than seeing a girl with a clear direction of what she wants to do with her life. Just spare us, your future baby-daddy, a room.

When a girl has that one thing, it tells a lot about herself. Be it singing, building your own fashion label, doing a corporate career, playing tennis, or even advocating koalas (hey, that’s cute), guys like girls with vision.

When you know what you wanna do with your life, it means you’re taking things seriously. You don’t just go with the flow, because, you know, the flow is always going down. I, myself, always find my friends fall faster to girls with that one thing: girls with clear direction of their life.

It’s also tell us that you know that you are in charge in your life. You don’t wait for you Prince Charming to come to you. You have that can-do attitude. You know you create your own happiness. And happy girlfriends mean happy boyfriends.

Well, the list can go on and on but I think those three things cover the essentials. I hope you guys have a great Valentine!

It's been a month for me thinking about it. I sold my old camera last month and think to buy the new one. I googled it so many times, reading many reviews and still couldn't decide the best camera for me. My options are Fujifilm XA-2 and Olympus Pen E-PL 7. I googled it and found many bloggers use this Olympus Pen E-PL 7, including my favorite blogger. I do love the photo result and also the camera design but only few people use Olympus in Indonesia, if you compare to Fujifilm/Canon/Samsung. Fujifilm is much more popular than the other in South East Asia. I need some recommendation for this. It is not for professional use, it's just for personal use and also for blogging/ vlogging.

What camera do you use? Should I buy Fujifilm XA-2 or Olympus Pen E-PL 7? Or any camera you recommend me to buy?

I am family oriented. I love being around my family. They make me comfortable with myself. They are the closest circle in my life. People who introduced me to this world. Then, As I grow up, I discover new thing, named friendship.

From kids until now I’ve had many kinds of friends. The intellectual, the bodyguard, the “mom”, the “younger sister”, and many more. Some of them stay until now, and some of them not. These special relationships do more than I expect. I learn about forgiveness, acceptance, and love. Researchers also find out that friends help us live longer. Friendship has bigger impact on our psychological well-being. I am so grateful to have genuine friendships. People who will support and make me want to be better version of me. People who treat me like their own family. I share with you 3 things we can learn from genuine friendship.

I am so glad I’ve had the chance to read this book as a single. I wish every young person who is single, dating, or engaged will read this book before they get into a serious relationship. Especially before they get married. This is well-written book by Gary Thomas on the subject of relationship. The insight and wisdom Gary Thomas presents, with his transparent style, will open your heart and make you think wider about marriage. There are so many good points from this book, but I want to share with you 3 things which I think is really good for my unmarried readers.

Growing as a Christian, I always wonder how God talks to me. Will He talk to me directly? Or Will He talk to me through my dreams or anything else? When I was a kid, this is what I thought,  I told my mom that I couldn’t listen to Him because I really have no idea in which way God will speak to me. It was frustrating (for me).

I know God speaks to His people. He talks to Job, Paul, Abraham, Jacob, and etc. Living in a Christian family, I saw that my mother also can talk to God and God can talk to her. I still remember, there was a moment when I asked my mother how to listen to His voice, and my mother encouraged me to learn to listen to His voice.

(photo aren't taken by me)
It's 2016 and I'm so excited for this year. Have you made your resolutions? I have. I have written several goals I want to achieve this year and I'm so so so excited and get nerve at the same time. One of my resolution is to read more books this year. I promise I will do it.

Yesterday, I joined Goodreads's 2016 Reading Challenge. My goals is to read 100 books in 2016. Is it possible? Hopefully yes. I also joined the group so we can motivate and inspire each other. Wish me luck.

If you also are big fan of books, let's meet on Goodreads. There are so many awesome people there.

There are nine out of 100 books on my list. I hope I can finish these nine in the end of January.

What do you recommend me to read? Write below.
